2014-15: JV Southern League Undefeated Season

Joshua Whitfield

Head Coach (6th Season)

Coach Whitfield was named the 7th Varsity Head Coach on August 5th, 2015. Transitioning from being an assistant football coach at Waterford since 2011, Josh took over the J.V. Girls Basketball team in 2014-15 and posted the program's first undefeated league record. In his first year as the Varsity Head Coach, he led the Lady Cats to the school's first basketball playoff win and into the quarter-finals of the D-V CIF-SJS Championships. Prior to Waterford Josh coached at Vilseck Germany while in the Army.  In his six combined seasons as a head women's high school varsity basketball coach, Josh's teams have never posted a losing record.

Coach Whitfield's focus at the high school level is mentoring and teaching student-athletes in professionalism, work ethic, and a healthy athletic lifestyle.  Furthermore, Josh's innovative marketing and administrative direction have ushered in the highest levels of fundraising and community support in the program's history. On the court, Josh has brought a high pressure - fast attacking style of play to Waterford, a system called "Havoc" which was pioneered by the University of Texas Men's Head Coach Shaka Smart.

In addition to coaching high school sports, Josh has worked in the public affairs arena for over ten years. In 2009, he joined Meridian Pacific Inc., a national consulting firm, where he worked until 2018. Josh also served two terms as a member of the Waterford City Council from 2013-2018. Today he works as representative to California State Assemblyman Heath Flora. He currently owns Tuolumne Security Service Inc., & Red Ogre Projects. In 2016, Josh was named the 4th Athletic Director for Waterford High School. He is an alumnus of Brandman University, Modesto Junior College, and Hughson High School where he played Football and Golf.

Josh was inducted into the Space Camp Hall of Fame in 2008 and was honored as a California Veteran of the Year in 2011. He served in the United States Army as a Cavalry Scout & Sniper from 2005-2010 when he was medically retired for wounds sustained in combat operations during the Iraq War. Among his military decorations are the Bronze Star and Purple Heart medals. In 2015, Josh married his wife Kerry, a high school earth science teacher, a former NCAA Softball Player for the College of St. Rose and the former Head Softball Coach at Gustine High School. Kerry became the Vice Principal at Waterford High School July of 2019. Josh considers his marriage to Kerry to be the greatest achievement and best moment so far in his life.
